Engal Arasan: Next Rajni movie

Kollywood filmmakers know Rajni fans have a long wait before they see their superstar’s next film. By the time Endhiran  (also spelt as Enthiran) releases in 2010, they would have waited for two desolate years; Kuselan, the last Rajni film released in August 2008. So RK Films and i Kapital plan to give an interim Rajni movie. They have dubbed Khoon Ka Karz – a Bollywood blockbuster and multistarrer – into Tamil as Engal Arasan. Not only have they dubbed it, they have also enhanced it digitally; the background score and the songs have been recreated and re-mixed in 5.1 DTS!

On February 15th, the movie’s promos featuring Rajni, Obama and the caption “Black Man, Big History” were pasted on compound walls, triggering a wave of curiosity in the city. Some speculated a new Rajni movie is on the anvil; others opined that this is one more Kuselan in the making! Now, you all know what the publicity was about. Engal Arasan also stars Bollywood stars Vinod Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Kimi Katkar and Sangeeta Bijlani, but Rajinikanth’s role is pivotal. You will be delighted to know that Rajnikanth will feature for more than 70 minutes in this film which lasts 190 minutes. The superstar has three beautiful songs and three daredevil stunt sequences in it.

Recently, a special preview was arranged at Bharani Theatre for a small audience, comprising distributors and general public. The response was overwhelming not only inside the theatre but even outside! The organizers of the preview were shocked to see the crowds gathered outside, eagerly waiting to learn about the movie from those who had watched it! That is the magic of Rajni!

March is going to be exciting for Rajni fans! And for all those who lamented the long wait for Endhiran, there is a reason to cheer.

Police have tighten up the security to Vadivelu, a star campaigner for the ruling DMK following the threat phone calls received by the actor’s manager to plant bombs in the house and vehicle of Vadivelu who is campaigning for the DMK-led alliance candidates in the ensuing Assembly elections.

T. Muthiah, manager of actor Vadivelu, who received a threat on his mobile phone on Sunday lodged a complaint with the DGP and Chennai city police commissioner claiming that he had received calls threatening the actor. He said that the caller warned of dire consequences if Vadivelu continued his election campaign.

“Actor Vadivelu has been campaigning for DMk from April 1st vigorously. In this situation, I got a threat phone call from the number 97891 34192. The person said that the van Vadivelu uses for campaigning would be blown up using a bomb and petrol bombs will be hurled at his office in Saligramam,” Muthiah added.

The police reportedly traced the calls to Coimbatore. Based on the alert, the Coimbatore Rural Police on Sunday have arrested two AIADMK activists Amul Kandasamy (45) of Koundampalayam and Karuppasamy (34) of Sanganur in Coimbatore district for allegedly behind the threat to the actor. The duo are being taken to Chennai for further investigations

Meanwhile, Vadivelu called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi at Chidambaram during campaigning on Sunday and and broached the subject to him.

It may be recalled that a youth, believed to be a DMDK activist, was taken into custody by the police after he hurled footwear at comedian and DMK’s star campaigner Vadivelu at a meeting at Thiruvanaikovil on Thursday.

Prabhu to Produce Another Ajith Block Bluster

Getting impressed by Ajith more and more is Prabhu. The veteran actor, who admired ‘Thala’ on the sets of ‘Billa’, wanted to produce a film with him and the end-product was ‘Asal’, which hit theatres recently.

Awestruck by the grand opening of ‘Asal’, Prabhu now wants to produce another movie with the same Ajith in the lead role. It is said the younger son of thespian Sivaji Ganesan has expressed this interest of him to Ajith for which the latter too responded positively.

“However, Ajith is at present gearing up for his 50th film, which would be directed by Goutham Vasudev Menon and produced by Dhayanidhi Alagiri. So his 51st venture may be with Prabhu for all probability,” sources say.

Meanwhile, Sivaji Productions, the producers of ‘Asal’, are promoting their venture in a big way. They have announced a contest, through which those watching the Ajith starrer could win gold coins by answering a question and producing a copy of the movie ticket

Ajith encourages Jai not to lose hope

Actor Jai has just completed the shooting schedule of his upcoming film titled ‘Arjunan Kaadhali’. The ‘Subramaniapuram’ fame actor has two more projects on hand at present including ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’, which would be produced by director A.R. Murugadoss, and ‘Vettai Mannan’ along side Simbu.
ai pins lots of hopes on all these three films. In particular, he is looking forward to the launch of ‘Engeyum Eppodhum’, which has a very interesting and innovative script. Jai, who hasn’t had a hit for a long time since the ‘Subramaniapuram’ days, believes that Murugadoss’ film has the potential to put him back in the reckoning in Kollywood.

Jai has found a new friend in actor Ajith, who frequently calls the former to come over to his office whenever he is free. Ajith would always speak to him in a manner which would further strengthen his self-confidence and encourage him to try harder to succeed, reveals Jai.

If you wonder what interest does Ajith have in keeping Jai’s spirits positive and alive, here’s the answer: Ajith believes that Jai’s present appearance exactly resembles his own look in his debut film ‘Amaravathi’, which released more than fifteen years ago!
